Released in September, 2010 the Nikon D7000 has immediately become one of the top cameras made by the Japanese photo giant. Built upon a 16.2 megapixel DX-format CMOS image sensor, the D7000 represents the first model in a new line of mid-class DSLR cameras.

Since its release, the D7000 has garnered wide spread praise and excellent reviews from publications and consumers alike. It’s easy to understand why once we take a look at the features in this amazing camera.

  • 16.2 megapixel sensor – As mentioned before, the D7000 packs an amazing 16.2 mp sensor, which is made all the better with the EXPEED-2 processor. The combination enables the capturing of some of the highest quality high-definition images in any mid-range camera.
  • 39 point AF system – The 39 point autofocus system on the D7000 is amazing, allowing for certain acquisition of the intended subject. It includes 3D tracking and a 2,016 pixel RGB metering sensor.
  • 1080p full HD video – The D7000 is Nikon’s first DSLR to offer full HD video recording – 1920x1080 resolution at 24fps. Both auto exposure and manual exposure are offered in the D-Movie capture feature.
  • Standard ISO 100 to 6400 – A wider ISO range is now standard on the D7000, allowing for professional quality pictures in all ranges of lighting situations. No matter if you’re a daytime shot at the beach or a romantic portrait in a candlelit restaurant, the D7000 doesn’t disappoint.
  • Magnesium alloy body – Reminiscent of the classic Nikon D90 body, the D7000 offers a familiar look and feel to Nikon enthusiasts while offering increased protection and durability.
  • 3.0” LCD display – The VGA LCD display on the D7000 allows for a 170 degree viewing angle with 921k-dot resolution. The bright display makes for easy reviews of images.

Many expected the D7000 to replace the venerable Nikon D90, but that has turned out not to be the case as D90s are still widely available and remain a distinct alternative because of their cheaper price point. Rather, it appears that D7000 will take on the popular Canon EOS 60D.

If you’re in the market for a world-class mid-range DSLR, the Nikon D7000 should be at the top of your list. It provides both a robust menu of features for the most discerning professional photographers and an intuitive, easy-to-use interface for everyday photo lovers.

The D7000 can be purchased alone or as part of a full kit with the Nikon 18-105mm DX VR Lens.
